THE 2024 APPLICATION DEADLINE HAS PASSED – WE LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU IN 2025

The Lower Hudson Valley Diamond Foundation is looking for a few good candidates of African-American/African/Caribbean or Latin Descent.  Graduating high school seniors who will be attending a college/university of their choice in the Fall of 2024, have a great opportunity to apply for our scholarship.  It is imperative that an applicant completes the application in its entirety, as requested.  This scholarship amounts to $1000.00 a year for four (4) consecutive years.

2024 SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

The following will be needed to complete the application:

  1. Personal letter addressed to the Foundation giving any additional information that will help evaluate qualifications.
  2. Two letters of recommendation from teachers that can speak to character and academic success.
  3. High school transcript.
  4. Essay with a minimum of 400 words on the topic: Considering the current conflicts between Ukraine and Russia/Israel and Palestine, analyze the role of the United States as a world power in these situations. Should the United States be involved in these conflicts, and if so, to what extent? Discuss the potential risks and benefits of U.S. involvement, and how such actions complement the broader goals of international diplomacy, human rights, and global stability.

The following schools represented the selected scholarship recipients (residents of Westchester and Rockland) in 2023:

New Rochelle High School – New Rochelle, NY (Westchester County)
Fox Lane High School – Bedford, NY (Westchester County)
Nyack High School – Nyack, NY(Rockland County)

2024 APPLICATION INFORMATION
The Lower Hudson Valley Diamond Foundation (LHVDF) awards scholarships annually to high school students that endeavor to further their educational pursuits. The LHVDF serves as the philanthropic entity of the New Rochelle-White Plains (NY) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and was created in 1999 to continue the scholarship efforts of the chapter. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. is a predominately African-American social and service fraternity founded in 1911. While the local alumni chapter has been awarding scholarships since the 1970s, 2024 denotes the foundation’s 25th year presenting scholarships to deserving students in the current distribution format. In the Fall of 2024, we will award up to four scholarships of $1000.00 per year for four (4) consecutive years to students of either gender who are of African-American/African/Caribbean and Latin descent.

Essay Topic:
